Hacking RSS and Atom
Publisher: Wiley | ISBN: 0764597582 | edition 2005 | PDF | 602 pages | 10,4 mb

" Now you can satisfy your appetite for information
This book is not about the minutia of RSS and Atom programming. It’s about doing cool stuff with syndication feeds-making the technology give you exactly what you want the way you want. It’s about building a feed aggregator and routing feeds to your e-mail or iPod, producing and hosting feeds, filtering, sifting, and blending them, and much more. Tan-talizing loose ends beg you to create more hacks the author hasn’t thought up yet. Because if you can’t have fun with the technology, what’s the point?
A sampler platter of things you’ll learn to do
* Build a simple feed aggregator
* Add feeds to your buddy list
* Tune into rich media feeds with BitTorrent
* Monitor system logs and events with feeds
* Scrape feeds from old-fashioned Web sites
* Reroute mailing lists into your aggregator
* Distill popular links from blogs
* Republish feed headlines on your Web site
* Extend feeds using calendar events and microformats

Complete Wireless Home Networking

Posted: 25 Jun 2009 03:42 AM PDT

Complete Wireless Home Networking
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR | ISBN: 0131461532 | edition 2003 | CHM | 224 pages | 3,85 mb

" This book offers tips and tricks for finding the best equipment for your home networking project and then walks you through the wireless network setup that’s right for you. The wireless market is expanding quickly. New standards, including high-speed 802.11a, and the emergence of other “no-new-wires” technologies, such as powerline, are making the home networking market a slightly confusing one for consumers. Connecting and using interoperable equipment from vendors including Linksys, Netgear, Intel, D-Link, and Proxim, among others, can be a genuine plug-and-play experience. Or it can lead to several days, or more, of confusing hang-ups. There are pitfalls to be sure, but they can be avoided with a little planning. This book can help. Looking toward the future, there are a host of new wireless standards coming out in the next two years. Should you wait for faster technology or jump in now? There are some ingenious ways being developed by manufacturers to make interoperable technologies work together (dual-mode wireless access points, for instance, that work with 802.11a and 802.11b), and you can always upgrade later. In a word, “jump.”

WILEY IAS 2003: Interpretation and Application of International Accounting Standards

Posted: 25 Jun 2009 03:40 AM PDT

WILEY IAS 2003: Interpretation and Application of International Accounting Standards
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons | ISBN: 0471227366 | edition 2002 | CHM | 1040 pages | 2,99 mb

" Your one indispensable guide to IAS compliance

International Accounting Standards (IAS–with future pronouncements to be known as International Financial Reporting Standards, or IFRS) are receiving more attention than ever, having now been endorsed by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and, most recently, by the European Union. The EU will require that listed companies throughout the European Union apply IAS, instead of previously employed national accounting standards, by 2005, for consolidated financial reporting purposes (and since comparative financials are required, users will generally need to begin this exercise in 2003, as a practical matter). These two events–coupled with the growing list of nations either formally adopting IAS or basing national standards on them, and with the ever-expanding group of major international companies choosing to report on that basis of accounting–will likely provide the impetus necessary to catapult IAS into truly global use and acceptance.

Wiley IAS 2003 is the compact yet truly comprehensive quick-reference guide that accountants can depend on to assist in the prepa- ration and understanding of financial statements presented in accordance with IAS. This new edition includes complete coverage of all the standards issued or revised by the International Accounting Standards Committee under the IOSCO's “core set of standards” program, as well as all other extant requirements. In addition, the book offers in-depth coverage of the latest changes proposed by the newly constituted International Accounting Standards Board's “improvements project,” some of which will likely become effective by the end of 2003.

More than ever before, every accountant or corporate financial official involved in–or contemplating–registration in foreign securities markets now needs the guidance offered in this book. Written by a team of practicing CPAs with in-depth international experience in applying IAS, this guide includes meaningful real-world examples and interpretive insights into the requirements of all current, and proposed, IAS.

This up-to-date 2003 edition covers important, complex requirements addressed by recent IAS, including:

* IAS 10, Events After the Balance Sheet Date
* IAS 33, Earnings Per Share
* IAS 34, Interim Financial Reporting
* IAS 35, Discontinuing Operations
* IAS 36, Impairment of Assets
* IAS 37, Provisions, Contingent Liabilities, and Contingent Assets
* IAS 38, Intangible Assets
* IAS 40, Investment Property
* IAS 41, Agriculture
* IAS 32, Financial Instruments: Disclosure and Presentation
* IAS 39, Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement
* IAS 39 Implementation Guidance: Questions and Answers

Plus: Other IAS, including the revised standards on Presentation of Financial Statements (IAS 1), Cash Flow Statements (IAS 7), Construction Contracts (IAS 11), Segment Reporting (IAS 14), Property, Plant and Equipment (IAS 16), Leases (IAS 17), Revenue (IAS 18), Employee Benefits (IAS 19), Income Taxes (IAS 12), Government Grants (IAS 20), Business Combinations (IAS 22), and the often contentious topic of Related-Party Disclosures (IAS 24), as well as coverage of specialized industry accounting rules–including Disclosures in Financial Statements of Banks (IAS 30). All currently effective interpretations (SIC) are fully discussed and integrated into the coverage of the related IAS.

New for 2003: expanded examples of financial statements prepared under IAS, with extensive informative disclosures, and a comprehensive comparison of IAS to both U.S. GAAP and U.K. GAAP requirements. Also included is a comprehensive, updated disclosure checklist.

Introduction to Algorithms 2nd Edition(Hardcover)

Posted: 25 Jun 2009 12:00 AM PDT

There are books on algorithms that are rigorous but incomplete and others that cover masses of material but lack rigor. Introduction to Algorithms combines rigor and comprehensiveness. The book covers a broad range of algorithms in depth, yet makes their design and analysis accessible to all levels of readers. Each chapter is relatively self-contained and can be used as a unit of study. The algorithms are described in English and in a pseudocode designed to be readable by anyone who has done a little programming. The explanations have been kept elementary without sacrificing depth of coverage or mathematical rigor. The first edition became the standard reference for professionals and a widely used text in universities worldwide. The second edition features new chapters on the role of algorithms, probabilistic analysis and randomized algorithms, and linear programming, as well as extensive revisions to virtually every section of the book. In a subtle but important change, loop invariants are introduced early and used throughout the text to prove algorithm correctness. Without changing the mathematical and analytic focus, the authors have moved much of the mathematical foundations material from Part I to an appendix and have included additional motivational material at the beginning.
