Adobe After Effects Heat Haze Tutorial Posted: 04 Sep 2009 10:38 AM PDT To make the heat haze effect was basically a 3 step process. Firstly I created a layer of fractal noise that evolved over time using an expression. I then used this layer as a displacement map for my main piece of footage. This essentially created the wavering, blurry look of a heat haze. The second step was creating the watery reflections you often see in the forground. For this i used a range of masks, scaling and blend modes, along with a bezier warp. The final step was colour correcting to make the warm reds and oranges associated with shooting in hot conditions. download links: http://rapidshare.com/files/275579947/HeatHaze.flv |

SQL Server 2008 Administration in Action Posted: 04 Sep 2009 03:05 AM PDT SharePoint 2007 Developer's Guide to Business Data Catalog SQL Server 2008 Administration isn't a standard SQL Server tutorial-there are dozens of those to choose from. Instead, this book breaks down the role of "SQL Server Administrator" into its key focus areas and tasks and details the techniques and best practices that make an administrator effective. In this book, a reader can quickly identify a task and find the best practice associated with it. For example, a reader looking for information about indexing would find step-by-step procedures for identifying and dropping unused indexes, creating missing indexes, selecting the appropriate clustered index, and so forth. Each technique is presented in a clear, straightforward style and in the order of the typical lifecycle of a SQL Server system. This allows a reader to easily open the book at the appropriate page and focus on what you need to know for each specific situation. While most techniques will work for all versions of SQL Server, this book is current for the recent final release of SQL Server 2008. About the Author Rod Colledge is an independent SQL Server consultant based in Brisbane, Australia. Since 1996, Rod has specialized in the development and administration of SQL Server database systems. His recent work has included the design and implementation of custom transactional replication and log shipping solutions, performance tuning large high-volume databases, and developing procedures for operational maintenance of large database systems. In September 2007, Rod founded sqlCrunch.com, a website specializing in summarizing and categorizing links to SQL Server white papers and best practices. download |
SharePoint 2007 Developer’s Guide to Business Data Catalog Posted: 04 Sep 2009 03:02 AM PDT SharePoint 2007 Developer's Guide to Business Data Catalog Organizations are surrounded by islands of data locked into different systems and databases. Microsoft introduced Business Data Catalog (BDC) with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server to help cope with the "Islands of Data" problem. Using BDC, you can bring data from many sources into one place: SharePoint. That data can then be made available for users to view on the intranet, extranet, or internet. SharePoint 2007 Developer's Guide to Business Data Catalog is a practical, example-rich guide to the features of the BDC and the techniques you need to build solutions for end users. This book starts with the basics-what the BDC is, what you can do with it, and how to pull together a simple BDC solution. With the fundamentals in hand, you start exploring the techniques and ideas to put BDC into use in your organization. About the Author Brett Lonsdale is a founder of Lightning Tools (www.lightningtools.com), a UK-based SharePoint consultancy specializing in BDC. Brett is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and an experienced trainer for MindSharp in the US and Combined Knowledge in the UK. NIck Swan is a founder of Lightning Tools (www.lightningtools.com), a UK-based SharePoint consultancy specializing in BDC. Dependency Injection Posted: 04 Sep 2009 02:55 AM PDT Dependency Injection Product Description Dependency Injection is an in-depth guide to the current best practices for using the Dependency Injection pattern-the key concept in Spring and the rapidly-growing Google Guice. It explores Dependency Injection, sometimes called Inversion of Control, in fine detail with numerous practical examples. Developers will learn to apply important techniques, focusing on their strengths and limitations, with a particular emphasis on pitfalls, corner-cases, and best practices. This book is written for developers and architects who want to understand Dependency Injection and successfully leverage popular DI technologies such as Spring, Google Guice, PicoContainer, and many others. The book explores many small examples of anchor concepts and unfolds a larger example to show the big picture. Written primarily from a Java point-of-view, this book is appropriate for any developer with a working knowledge of object-oriented programming in Java, Ruby, or C#. About the Author Dhanji R. Prasanna is an Enterprise Java consultant for technologies such as EJB3, JBI, JSF, Guice, Wave, Spring, HiveMind, and PicoContainer. He is a co-author of the Bean Validation (JSR-303), JAX-RS (JSR-311), Servlet 3.0 (JSR-315), and JavaServerFaces 2.0 (JSR-314) specifications. He is also co-author of the Java EE 6.0 (JSR-316) platform specification, which is the next edition of J2EE. download |
Object-Oriented Analysis and Design : Understanding System Development with UML 2.0 Posted: 04 Sep 2009 02:38 AM PDT Object-Oriented Analysis and Design : Understanding System Development with UML 2.0 Product Description Covering the breadth of a large topic, this book provides a thorough grounding in object-oriented concepts, the software development process, UML and multi-tier technologies. After covering some basic ground work underpinning OO software projects, the book follows the steps of a typical development project (Requirements Capture – Design – Specification & Test), showing how an abstract problem is taken through to a concrete solution. The book is programming language agnostic – so code is kept to a minimum to avoid detail and deviation into implementation minutiae. A single case study running through the text provides a realistic example showing development from an initial proposal through to a finished system. Key artifacts such as the requirements document and detailed designs are included. For each aspect of the case study, there is an exercise for the reader to produce similar documents for a different system. download |
